  Hello Visitor,

Year 2 have had a busy start back after the Christmas break.

In English, we have been reading the text ‘Can you See Something Blue?’- we have been learning some of the text using a text map and have made our own actions to help us to remember it. We will be moving on to our ‘innovation’ stage shortly, in which we will be adding our own ideas to change the story. We have had a ‘blue’ hunt in which we have searched for blue items, linked to our work on possessive apostrophes (for example: he thought he saw something blue but it was the cat’s new mat.)

In Maths, we have been learning all about shape. We have been looking at a range of 2d shapes and we will be moving onto 3d shape shortly.

As part of our Science lessons, we have started our unit of habitats. We have looked at things that are ‘alive’, ‘used to be alive (dead)’ and things that ‘have never been alive’. The children have had fun looking around the school grounds for things in each category. This would be an interesting discussion to have at home - maybe you could see if your child can spot things in each category in your garden or an outside space near your home.

We have started our work on different areas of the UK in Geography. We have been discussing the countries of the UK as well as the capital cities.

In RE, we have been discussing ‘questions about God’.

In PE, we have started our work on Gymnastics.

In Computing, we have started learning to touch type. We have used ‘BBC dance mat typing’ to practise our skills. The children have enjoyed increasing in speed with their typing.

Next steps for your child at home:

Can you see any 2d or 3d shapes in your home environment? Can you create your own picture using 2d shapes?

Have a go at writing sentences including apostrophes (I thought I saw something blue but it was my Mum’s new gloves).

Make your own text map for a story you know. Can you make your own actions too?

We thank you for your continued support this year.
