Hello Visitor,

As part of our ongoing commitment to anti-bullying at our school, we would like to set up a group of peer buddies who would have a responsibility to ensure that playtimes are fun and free of conflict.

A peer buddy needs to be committed to the role and will require the following necessary qualities.
To be:

  • Friendly
  • Caring
  • A good listener
  • A good role model to others
  • Trustworthy
  • Reliable
  • Aware of confidentiality

Some of the issues that they will deal with may include name calling, children left out of games, lonely children, squabbles, bumps and bruises. They are not expected to solve problems but will be taught various skills on how to help with these issues during a day’s training. They will be given a high-vis jacket so they will be clearly visible in the playground. They will only be expected to help and support children one or two days a week, allowing them plenty of time to play and enjoy their playtime. Regular meetings will be held to revisit training and evaluate how the role is evolving. This role will last most of the year and they may help with training Year 1 children in the Summer term.

If your child thinks this may be something they would like to be part of then they can complete the attached form (paper copies available in the officeand return it to their class teacher or via the office by Monday 29th January. Any applications received after this date will mean the children have missed the opportunity for an interview. All applicants will be given a short “interview” led by Mrs Farrell and Mrs Miller, where the successful candidates will be selected. All applicants will be notified if they have been successful or not. Children who are not successful will be placed on a list in case of any changes that occur throughout the year.
